About Blue Oyster Cult
The Story of Blue Oyster Cult tickets
Blue Oyster Cult is the original. Before bands like Metallica, Guns n' Roses and Megadeth rocked arena crowds into a frenzy with their heavy metal sounds, Blue Oyster Cult was perfecting the genre way ahead of their time. Their song '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' has become an all-time classic, stretching its influence over several generations, and still mesmerizing their loyal audiences. And the band's live shows have always pleased the many who have seen them, with innovative technical aspects like laser light shows (before everyone did them), revolving stage lighting, and experimental sound devices. Starting out as the band Soft White Underbelly in 1967, most the members of Blue Oyster Cult met at Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York. Manager Sandy Pearlman urged the band on and provided them with his poetry for lyrics to their songs, which became a trademark of their style, the deep, philosophical words attracting countless listeners on their own head trips in the 1970s. Writer Richard Meltzer also provided some lyrical material. Their debut album, Blue Oyster Cult in 1972, sold well out of gate, as did their second effort Tyranny and Mutation in 1973, and they started headlining arena shows. But it was their first live album On Your Feet or on Your Knees in 1975 went gold and raised their international profile. With their next album, Agents of Fortune Blue Oyster Cult became a phenomenon. Other band hits include 'Godzilla,' 'Burnin' for You,' 'This Ain't the Summer of Love' and 'Astronomy.'
