Chicago Fire FC Details

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club enjoyed tremendous success right out of the gate upon entering Major League Soccer in 1998, winning that season’s MLS Cup and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup -- a feat nearly unheard of for expansion teams. With future U.S. Men’s National Team manager Bob Bradley at the helm and iconic players like Piotr Nowak, Hristo Stoichkov, Ante Razov and Zach Thornton leading the way, the Fire’s performances at Soldier Field sparked the passion of fans across Chicago.

The Fire replicated that success on several occasions during its first decade in MLS, claiming the 2003 Supporters Shield along with three more U.S. Open Cup trophies by 2006. That year also marked the Club’s first season playing in Bridgeview, Ill. with a soccer-specific stadium of its own.

Veljko Paunovic, a 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup champion as the head coach of Serbia, assumed the managerial post for the Fire ahead of the 2016 season. Since his arrival, the Club has seen such notable additions to the roster as German legend and 2014 FIFA World Cup champion Bastian Schweinsteiger, U.S. international Dax McCarty and 2017 MLS Golden Boot winner Nemanja Nikolic.
