FC Dallas Playoff History
FC Dallas are one of ten founding MLS teams, and the squad has regularly featured in the playoffs. Formerly known as the Dallas Burn, the franchise changed their name to FC Dallas in 2005, and now play their soccer in Frisco, Texas. In their early years, American star Jason Kreis led Dallas, and he ended his career one goal shy of 100 for the club.
Despite the goal-scoring prowess of Kreis, FC Dallas was not able to capture an MLS Cup title in his time at the club. In his Dallas playing days from 1996-2004, the club only made it to the semifinals twice and failed to make the playoffs his last two seasons. During these early years, the franchise had some of the lowest attendance numbers in the league, and it was not until the switch to becoming FC Dallas that the team saw more playoff success.
After their name change from Dallas Burn, FC Dallas made the playoffs three years in a row. In 2006, they had the best regular season in the Western Conference and looked primed for their deepest playoff run. The team was powered by top scorer Carlos Ruiz, but they went out in the quarterfinals. The following season also saw a quarterfinal exit for the Dallas side, and this defeat was made all the more bitter as it was against their bitter Texas rival the Houston Dynamo.
The club then stagnated and missed out on the playoffs the next two seasons. The Dallas franchise needed some positive results, and the franchise looked to only be going backwards. The 2010 season marked a change for the club’s playoff fortunes. They qualified for the playoffs by finishing third in their conference. In the quarterfinals, they faced defending champions Real Salt Lake at home and went behind early to a 5th minute Fabián Espíndola goal. In need of a comeback, Jeff Cunningham notched an equalizer just before halftime. After a red card for both teams, it was 10-on-10, and Dallas won the game with a late Eric Avila goal. Dallas then tied the return away leg and reached the semifinals.
Dallas faced their most difficult opponent as they travelled to Los Angeles to face the international superstar David Beckham and American legend Landon Donovan’s Galaxy. Despite the challenge, Dallas overcame the odds and put the Galaxy to the sword 3-0 and earned their first ever MLS Cup Final berth. Unfortunately, FC Dallas fell at the last hurdle to the Colorado Rapids after an unlucky extra-time own goal sealed their fate.

What makes FC Dallas postseason games special for fans?
Buying FC Dallas postseason tickets isn’t just about attending another game—it’s about experiencing something bigger. Here’s what makes postseason special compared to the regular season, and why it’s worth securing tickets early:
Higher stakes and intensity: Postseason FC Dallas games are when every action counts. The pressure is on, the matchups more meaningful, and the atmosphere electric. If you want to see critical plays, clutch moments, and possibly history being made, this is where it happens.
Scarcity and urgency: There are fewer postseason games, and demand shoots up fast. Premium seats fill up quickly. Buying tickets early means better choice in seating, avoiding inflated resale prices, and locking in your spot before the buzz drives them higher.
Exclusive perks and priority: Ticket holders often get extras that regular-season attendees don’t always get: priority access to purchase playoff tickets (especially if you’re a season-ticket or membership holder), exclusive merchandise, special events, themed game nights, or upgraded amenities (parking, entrance, etc.).
Memorable atmosphere and fan energy: The crowd is more invested, the media presence greater, and the tension more palpable. Postseason FC Dallas games tend to be more electric—fans are louder, anticipation is higher, and the emotional payoff is bigger.
Opportunity to witness defining moments: These are the FC Dallas fans talk about for years. Comebacks, championships, career highlights—postseason is when legacies are built. If you want to be there for those moments, this is your chance.
Better value in some cases: Even though the tickets might cost more, when balanced against what you get (intensity, perks, memorable experience), many fans find postseason FC Dallas tickets fetch greater value per dollar compared to regular season games, especially when you consider resale value or experiential payoff.

If the FC Dallas postseason game is rained out, either your ticket remains valid for the rescheduled event, or you get a full refund if it’s canceled. SeatGeek keeps you updated every step of the way and ensures you’re always protected.
