The Wallflowers in transition

Last year proved to be one of transition for The Wallflowers. The changes began on May 12, 2013 when organ player Rami Jaffee performed his last show to date with the band. In his place , Jimmy Wallace began touring with The Wallflowers and has been with the group ever since. The springtime shake-up wasn't the end, however.

On September 3, 2013 former Wallflowers drummer Mario Calire announced that he would once again be touring with the band in the fall. Five days later, bassist Greg Richling announced that after two decades in The Wallflowers, he was leaving the band. And a week after that, Jack Irons also officially announced he was quitting. To say the least, it was a tumultuous September. While no announcement has since been made as to whether or not there will be new members of The Wallflowers, there's been some movement with the old members. Irongs and Richling, along with singer/songwriter Jon Greene and guitarist Alain Johannes, released their debut album with their band Arthur Channel on October 15, 2013.

In early 2014, the song "One Headlight" began appearing in a Geico insurance television advertisement. The song was originally released back in 1997 through Interscope Records, and was the second single from the band's 1996 album, "Brining Down the Horse." In 2000, it was listed at #58 on Rolling Stone and MTV's list of 100 Greatest Pop Songs of All Time.

The Wallflowers will be performing for Homecoming 2014 at the University of Iowa on Friday, October 10. The concert put on by SCOPE Productions will be held on the Pentacrest Lawn immediately following the Homecoming parade.

Dylan Follows in Famed Footsteps of his Father (Created April 17, 2013)

Son to a legend and a key piece of the mid-90's revival of roots rock, Jakob Dylan fronted a band that has gone through name changes and shake-ups, but survived to release six studio albums and have its work prominently featured in various television and movie soundtracks. Once known as The Apples, but now called The Wallflowers, these rockers have been making music for nearly 25 years and counting.

Born in 1970, Jakob Dylan grew up with the expectation of carrying on his father's legacy. He began to follow in those famed footsteps in the late 80's, and formed the Wallflowers with guitarist Tobi Miller, bassist Barrie Maguire, keyboardist Rami Jaffee and drummer Peter Yanowitz. The five men weren't deterred when their debut album sold so poorly it lost them a record deal. Instead, they bounced back strong with a sophomore project under the Interscope label behind producer T-Bone Burnett. "Bringing Down the Horse," was released in May 1996, and with "6th Avenue Heartache" produced the first of many hits for the band.

It was "One Headlight" (also from "Bringing Down the Horse") that earned the band its first Grammy for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The Wallflowers have remained active ever since, though they've had periods of inactivity, lineup changes and Dylan working on solo projects. Their most recent project, "Glad All Over," dropped in the fall of 2012. The first single was "Reboot the Mission," followed by "Love is a Country."
