It Takes A Thief' is the tagline for the Washington, D. C. based duo consisting of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. Of course the pair have a little help from the their friends, including Rob Myers, Frank 'Booty Lock' Mitchell, Jeff Franca and Ashish Vyas. And with a group like that, they're bound to make some noise. The thing that makes Thievery Corporation stand out is an eclectic style that mixes elements of acid jazz, dub, Indian Classical, Brazilian, Middle Eastern and reggae music. Formed in the summer of 1995, Garza and Hilton had a mutual love of music and the club life. The two decided to combine various sounds in the studio to see what the end result would sound like, and born of that project was the Eighteenth Street Music Lounge record label. Thievery Corporation's debut came with "Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi," and they managed an even higher profile with follow-up albums like "The Mirror Conspiracy," "The Richest Man in Babylon," and "The Cosmic Game. " Their fifth studio album, "Radio Retaliation," earned a Grammy nomination in 2008, and the following year they opened for Sir Paul McCartney at FedEdField in Landover, Maryland. The group's latest effort, "Culture of Fear," came in 2011. They continue to draw attention for use of lyrics throughout their career that includes English, French, Hindi, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian and more.
