Getting into a Metallica stadium show is already a big event. Getting the tickets can feel like one, too.

Metallica has added 12 North American stadium dates to the “M72 World Tour” for spring and summer 2027, with Limp Bizkit and Avatar opening every show. Before tickets go on sale to everyone, fans will have several different opportunities to buy during a packed week of presales beginning Monday, Sept. 21.

Metallica 2027 presale and onsale key dates

Metallica's 2027 ticket rollout stretches across five days, so there are several chances to try again if your first presale does not work out.

Metallica's Fan Club gets the first shot Monday, while Citi and Verizon presales run from Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:00 a.m. through Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 p.m. local venue time. Local presales are scheduled for Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. before the general onsale begins Friday morning.

One important detail: local venue time means the time zone of the stadium you are trying to attend, not necessarily the time zone where you live.

How do the Metallica 2027 tour presales work?

Metallica fans have more than one route into presale week.

Fan Club members get the earliest opportunity Monday, followed by Citi and Verizon on Tuesday, Spotify on Wednesday and venue or local presales on Thursday.

That means missing one window does not end your chances. Inventory can vary from one presale to another, and Ticketmaster notes that ticket availability may differ between presales.

Metallica Legacy Member and Fifth Member presales

If you are serious about getting the earliest possible access, Metallica's Fan Club presales are the place to start.

There are two groups of Fan Club members, but you cannot simply pay to move into the earlier tier.

Fifth Member membership is free and open to new fans. Metallica's old MetClub was previously a paid membership that generally cost about $45-$60 per year, but the band eliminated membership fees in 2015.

Legacy Members are longtime fans grandfathered in from that older paid club. Metallica defines a Legacy Member as someone who had a paid MetClub membership for at least two years between 1994 and 2015, or who had an active paid membership on Aug. 24, 2015. Metallica stopped granting Legacy status retroactively in 2021, so new members cannot purchase or earn their way into that tier now.

For this tour, the distinction matters because Legacy Members get a two-hour head start.

Legacy Members can begin buying tickets Monday, Sept. 21 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time, while Fifth Members get access beginning Monday at 12:00 p.m. local venue time. The Fan Club presale is scheduled to end Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time or earlier if its allotted tickets sell out.

That earlier window is one of the primary benefits Legacy Members still receive. Metallica notes that Legacy Members sometimes receive earlier access to ticket presales, although the advantage is not guaranteed for every tour. Both Legacy and Fifth Members otherwise participate through Metallica's Fan Club and use personal presale codes.

Joining as a Fifth Member also comes with benefits beyond ticket presales, including access to exclusive contests, content, occasional merchandise discounts, exclusive merchandise and giveaways. Metallica has also held Fifth Member contests for opportunities such as Snake Pit access and Meet & Greets.

Here is how to prepare for the Metallica Fan Club presale:

1. Join or sign into the Metallica Fan Club. Fifth Member membership is free, so you can create an account on Metallica's website before presale day.

2. Request your personal presale code. Fan Club members need an individual code to unlock the sale. Your code should appear in the Presale Codes section of your Metallica account and be sent to the email connected to your profile.

3. Know which window you qualify for. Existing Legacy Members can begin shopping at 10:00 a.m. local venue time Monday. Fifth Members follow at noon.

4. Choose your city ahead of time. Metallica's 2027 run includes 12 stadiums, and the sale opens according to each venue's local time.

5. Have several sections in mind. The “M72” stage sits in the round near midfield, so this is not a normal end-stage stadium setup. Look at the seating map before inventory starts moving.

6. Enter the sale through Metallica's official tour page. Use the ticket link associated with the exact city you want rather than searching for the queue once the sale has already started.

7. Do not assume a code guarantees tickets. Presale inventory is limited and can sell through before the scheduled end of the window.

Recent “M72” Fan Club sales have generally allowed up to four seated or general-admission tickets per person per city, though limits can vary by tour, venue and ticket type. Check the posted rules for your specific 2027 event before buying.

Metallica Citi Cardmember Presale

Citi is the official card of Metallica's “M72 World Tour,” giving eligible cardmembers another early opportunity beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time.

The Citi presale is scheduled to remain open through Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 p.m. local venue time, subject to ticket availability.

Fans should make sure the Citi card they plan to use is eligible for the offer and have it ready before entering the sale. Presale access and payment requirements are handled through the Citi Entertainment program.

Metallica Verizon Shine Presale

Eligible Verizon customers get their opportunity at the same time as Citi cardmembers.

The Verizon Shine Presale begins Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time for select U.S. shows and is scheduled to continue through Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 p.m. local venue time.

Verizon customers should opt in to Verizon Shine and connect their Verizon account before the sale begins. Ticketmaster directs eligible customers to connect their Verizon account through their account settings for participating shows.

The Vancouver show at BC Place is in Canada, so the Verizon offer should not be treated as an option for that date.

Metallica Reserved by Spotify presale

Another batch of Metallica tickets is scheduled to become available Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time through Reserved by Spotify.

This works differently from a traditional presale code. Spotify selects eligible Premium subscribers based on fan engagement and other factors, and qualifying fans can have up to two tour tickets held for them during a dedicated purchase window.

Spotify may notify eligible fans by email, push notification or inside the Spotify app. If you receive an offer, follow the link provided by Spotify and choose from the eligible Metallica dates and available seats.

Ticketmaster currently lists Reserved by Spotify as available to eligible U.S. Spotify Premium subscribers for participating Metallica shows, so access is not guaranteed for every Premium member or every date.

Metallica local and venue presales

Thursday is the final major presale day before everyone gets access.

Metallica's local presales are scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time and run through 10:00 p.m. local venue time, subject to availability.

The exact presales can vary by market. Depending on the stadium, you may see opportunities for venue subscribers, NFL team members or season-ticket holders, college athletics supporters, Live Nation users, Ticketmaster users, radio listeners or other local groups.

For example, Highmark Stadium has announced a Buffalo Bills PSL holder presale for the Metallica show. Other stadiums can have their own local programs and access codes.

Check the event page and your venue's email list before Thursday rather than assuming there will be one universal local presale password.

When do Metallica 2027 tickets go on sale?

The general onsale for Metallica's 12 newly announced North American stadium shows begins Friday, Sept. 25 at 10:00 a.m. local venue time.

Since every show goes live at 10:00 a.m. in its own time zone, fans considering more than one city may actually have multiple opportunities Friday.

For example, an East Coast show will go live before a Mountain Time show. If you are genuinely willing to travel, identify those backup cities before Friday instead of making that decision after your first queue has already ended.

Is there another way to get early Metallica tickets besides the presales and onsale?
