Welcome to SeatGeek Front Row, where SeatGeek employees share their best tips for getting the most out of live events. For this edition, lead software engineer Adam Pirani walks you through exactly what courtside seats are like at a Portland Trail Blazers game at Moda Center, with insights ranging from premium access to grabbing the perfect bite.

Courtside doesn’t always mean feet on the court but it does always mean an elevated experience. At the Moda Center in Portland, OR, “courtside” refers to rows AA - EE around the court. When you are this close to the action, your typical strategies for food, beverage and bathrooms no longer apply!

How early should you arrive for a Blazers game if you’re sitting courtside?

If you’re sitting courtside, plan to be inside the arena as close to doors opening as possible so you can watch warmups from just a few feet away. Doors at Moda Center typically open about 75 minutes before tipoff, and players start filtering onto the court shortly after for shooting, stretching and pregame routines.

Courtside is one of the few spots where getting there early genuinely changes the experience, so show up with time to spare and you’ll feel like you got an extra mini-show before the opening tip.

How to get to Moda Center

Once you’ve locked in those courtside seats, here’s how I’d get to the game to make sure you’re there early.

Transit (MAX light rail)

Four of the five MAX lines stop right outside the arena, so you can basically step off the train and walk straight toward the entrances.

Tap to pay just before boarding so you’re all set when fare inspectors come through. For most fans, MAX is the easiest combo of affordable, low-stress and close to the door.

Cycling

Portland is one of the best cycling cities in the country, and Moda Center leans into that.

There’s plenty of bike parking outside the arena. My go-to is the covered bike racks near the north entrance—your bike stays dry, and you’re just a short walk from security. The north entry is usually one of the fastest in and out, which is huge if you want to beat the crowds after the final buzzer.

Bonus: There’s a bike repair station nearby if you need a quick tune-up or air before you ride home.

Rideshare

If you’re grabbing an Uber or Lyft, the key is not getting stuck in the traffic jam right at the arena.

Instead of calling your ride directly outside Moda Center, I’d recommend walking a few blocks east on NE Multnomah St. Then head to MLK (southbound) if you’re going south or head to Grand Ave (northbound) if you’re going north.

You’ll still be just a short walk from the arena, but your ride home will be a lot faster.

Driving

If you’re a season ticket holder in this section, your package likely includes a parking pass, which makes driving more appealing. For one-off tickets, though, parking usually isn’t included, and paying separately can add up.

The good news: Moda Center is a major transit hub and Portland is a true cycling city, so this is one game where I’d seriously consider leaving the car at home and taking advantage of everything around the arena instead.

What food and drinks are like at Blazers courtside seats

For most games, my first stop at Moda Center is the self-serve snack areas for $5.75 cans of Pub Beer — easily one of the best values in the building. When you’re courtside, though, you can skip the lines entirely because everything comes to you.

Like a true VIP, you’ll have access to many of the arena’s best options through in-seat service:

  • Ranch Pizza is a go-to, and the stand usually has long lines at halftime. From courtside, you can order slices right from your seat and never miss a possession.

  • Killer Burger gets a lot of love from other fans for its loaded burgers. The classic is a solid choice; they’re also known for the “Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon” burger if you’re adventurous—I’m not quite brave enough to go for that one yet.

  • Around the concourse, you’ll also find rotating local spots like Top Burmese and, according to some recent reviews, even Lardo in the building. Those aren’t always on the dedicated courtside menu, but they’re good names to keep in mind if you decide to take a quick lap before tip or at halftime.

Service-wise, there’s a dedicated server close by whose attention is easy to get, and the whole staff does a great job making sure you’re taken care of. Even if your food comes from farther down the row, people are quick to help pass everything along, so you can stay locked in on the game while your snacks and drinks make their way to you.

Premium facilities included when you’re sitting Blazers courtside

The biggest game changer with these seats is that you have access to the Riverside Club on the floor level. You walk right through the same tunnel the refs and dancers use, and it opens up into a full restaurant and bar with private bathrooms, so you don’t have to trek all the way up the stairs to the concourse.

Remember: your seats are just off the floor, so the public concourse isn’t exactly nearby. Having everything you need on that lower level like food and restrooms is a huge upgrade.

There’s also a private shop down here with some of the hottest merch in the entire arena, which is perfect if you want to grab something special without fighting the crowds upstairs.

One of the coolest feelings of the whole night is coming back from the club at halftime and walking out onto the floor again. For a few seconds, it really does feel like you’re the one making the entrance.

What watching a Blazers game is like from courtside seats

I’m burying the lede here, but for a hoops fan, being this close to the floor gives you a completely different perspective on these athletes. They’re so much bigger, taller, faster and more explosive than they look on TV or from the upper bowl.

From courtside, you can hear everything: the trash talk, the defensive calls, the arguing with refs and the quick huddles during free throws. It adds a whole new audio layer to the game that you just don’t get anywhere else in the arena.

The perks are great, but I’m ultimately here for the basketball. There’s no better way to understand true NBA game speed than sitting mere feet away from the action, especially when it comes to the Trail Blazers at Moda Center.
