About Chromeo
About Chromeo
Montreal isn't exactly known as a true hotbed of music, but it was the birth place of electro-funk duo Chromeo more than a decade ago … and these guys are still going strong.
A project of former hip-hop producers Dave One and Pee Thug (David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel), Chromeo was one part guitar and vocals, one part talkbox/synth and a bunch of passionate songwriting. Their first single, "Destination Overdrive," bowed in late 2003 with a B-side ("Needy Girl") that became a world wide club hit.
"(The album) didn't blow up," said Macklovitch. "But we had "Needy Girl," and "Needy Girl" was like a musical passport. That song went all around the world and DJs played it everywhere."
The full-length album "She's in Control" rolled out early 2004, which set the tone for Chromeo early in their career. Reviews were mostly favorable, as they have been for other projects like "Fancy Footwork" in 2009 and the critically-acclaimed "Business Casual" in 2010. In March 2011, Chromeo then recorded what it called the "world's smallest album," entitled "Drive Time," which consisted of 55 songs in only 183 seconds. It was used as part of the Nokia Own Voice satellite navigation pack for Ovi Maps, and made for usage with Nokia's compatible cell phones.
In the fall of 2013, Chromeo announced their fourth album, "White Women," with a trailer video featuring the track for the single "Over Your Shoulder." The album was released on May 9, 2014, also spawning the single "Sexy Socialite."
