About Cut Copy Tickets
Cut Copy is an Australian electronic music band formed in 2001 in Melbourne by DJ and graphic designer Dan Whitford. Originally a solo project combining synth-pop, house and new wave influences, Cut Copy expanded into a full band with the addition of Tim Hoey (guitar), Mitchell Scott (drums) and eventually Ben Browning (bass). Whitford's early inspiration came from French house and 1980s pop, leading to the release of their debut album Bright Like Neon Love in 2004. The album garnered attention for its blend of retro synth textures and indie dance beats, laying the foundation for the band's signature sound.
Their 2008 sophomore album, In Ghost Colours, became a breakthrough moment, earning critical acclaim and commercial success. Featuring dancefloor anthems like “Hearts on Fire” and “Lights & Music,” the album debuted at No. 1 on the Australian charts and helped Cut Copy gain a global following. The band toured extensively, playing major festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Glastonbury. Their vibrant live shows and ability to merge rock instrumentation with club-ready energy solidified their place in the global indie-dance scene.
Over the years, Cut Copy has continued to evolve musically while maintaining their signature electro-pop charm. Albums like Zonoscope (2011), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Free Your Mind (2013) further pushed the boundaries of their sound with more expansive, psychedelic textures. Their most recent album, Freeze, Melt (2020), introduced a moodier, more introspective tone while still rooted in electronic groove. With over two decades of music, Cut Copy remains a defining force in indie dance music, known for bridging the gap between nostalgic synth-pop and modern electronic innovation.
