What is MLC?
Major League Cricket is the top professional T20 cricket league in the United States. It’s basically the U.S. version of a franchise league: city-based teams, star players from around the world, a short fast format and a season played over a few weeks.
For someone new to cricket, the easiest way to think about it is: MLC is to cricket roughly what MLS is to soccer, but using the T20 format. In T20 cricket, each team gets 20 overs to bat, and an over is 6 legal balls, so each side faces up to 120 balls. That makes games much shorter and more action-heavy than traditional cricket.
When was MLC founded?
MLC was established in 2019 by American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), with its inaugural season played in July of 2023.
How does cricket work?
Cricket is a game played with two teams of 11 players. One team bats to score runs while the other team fields to get them out. The batting team tries to score as many runs as possible, with the team that scores the most runs winning. In MLC, each team gets 120 balls (20 sets of 6 balls each) to score as many runs as possible.
How long does an MLC match usually last?
MLC uses the T20 format, where each team bats for up to 20 overs. A full T20 match generally runs around three-plus hours once you include both innings, the innings break, and normal small delays.
How many teams are in MLC?
Six teams currently compete in MLC, consisting of the Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom.
When does the MLC season typically take place?
MLC is generally played in the summer, typically in June and July.
