Reggie Jackson was the perfect example during the 1977 World Series, when he belted three home runs on three pitches against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The nickname Mr. October was later called back when Derek Jeter’s game winning home run in the 2001 World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks took place just after midnight on November 1, earning him the nickname Mr. November.
Speaking of great Yankee performances against the Dodgers, Don Larsen threw a perfect game against the Dodgers in Game Five of the 1956 World Series. Larsen’s performance is still the gold standard for all pitching performances in the World Series, and one that may never be equaled given how rare perfect games are and how good the hitters are in Major League Baseball.
