No Doubt to perform at Global Citizen Festival
Hopes were high when No Doubt announced in the winter of 2013 that the band was working on a new album and planning a new tour. There seemed to be no doubt, in fact, that the band would be touring through most of the year in support of the new music. The album never materialized, however, and the tour never got started.
News went from bad to worse for No Doubt fans when, in October 2013, they revealed on Twitter that the band was once again on hiatus and would likely regroup in 2014. By the end of April, when fans were hoping for that reunion announcement, they instead received word that Gwen Stefani had been named a coach on season seven of NBC's "The Voice" and would be performing her No. 1 single "Hollaback Girl" from her debut solo album, "Love. Angel. Music. Baby."
So is there any hope for a No Doubt reunion in 2014? It appears the answer is yes, even though nothing has been 'confirmed.' That's because No Doubt has been penciled in to perform at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on September 27, 2014. The band posted the announcement on their website in early July and said, "We can't think of a more important reason to play our first show in a while than to come out and join this amazing group of performers and help shine a light on this incredibly important issue."
Other performers at the Global Citizen Festival include Jay Z, Fun, Carrie Underwood, Tiesto and The Rooots. The free ticketed event is designed to raise awareness and help end extreme poverty by 2030.
No Doubt still can't 'Settle Down' (Updated May 22, 2013)
No Doubt's rise at the turn of the century came with the follow-up to "Tragic Kingdom." The "Return of Saturn," on the heels of a spring of 2000 release, saw "Simple King of Life" and "Ex-Girlfriend" both reach mainstream success. Next came Stefani's collaboration with rap star Eve on "Let Me Blow Your Mind," which went on win a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2002.
Think No Doubt couldn't rise any higher? Think again. 2003 was a monster year for the band, which released the album "The Singles 1999-2003," earned a Grammy nod for a cover of the song "It's My Life," and followed up that success with a special two-disc, two-DVD set titled "Boom Box." Separately, they also rolled out "Rock Steady Life," a DVD of the band performing in Long Beach from their Rock Steady tour.
What followed all that work was – what else? – a hiatus that wound up lasting the better part of a decade, and during which Stefani stayed in the spotlight thanks to two hit solo albums. No Doubt would have a reunion tour in 2009, accompanied by the announcement of a brand new album. That project took nearly three years to finish, and was released under the title "Push and Shove" in the fall of 2012. The first single, "Settle Down," peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100.
No Doubt announced on February 26, 2013 they were officially working on new music, and were also making plans for an upcoming tour.
No Doubt Tickets - Get Caught in the Spiderwebs
The mid-'90s saw a swing toward the new wave style of music, the kind of music we saw way back in the '80s, such as Culture Club. Only this resurgence had a bit more bite to its bark with a rock edge to it. Enter: No Doubt with front_woman_ Gwen Stefani at the top of her game. This band was born in 1987, comprised of guitarist Tom Dumont, drummer Adrian Young, and Gwen's brother Eric. It was no mystery in the spiderwebs that No Doubt would no doubt sign with a major label -- Interscope Records, to be exact.
No Doubt Tickets - A Stunning Musical Resume, No Doubt
The band debuted in 1992 with their first album, but it wasn't until their release Tragic Kingdom in October of 1995 that No Doubt exploded with such hits as 'Spiderwebs,' 'Just a Girl,' and 'Don't Speak.' Gwen Stefani continued with the band No Doubt to revive the style and savvy that was New Wave mixed with Ska and Punk in a big way.
No Doubt Tickets - Definitely Not a 'Tragic Kingdom'
On the contrary, this Kingdom was truly a celebration with Stefani's lost- innocence edge and riotous 'grrrl' feminism quality to accent the band's style. No Doubt clearly redefined the new wave/ska movement that became so predominant that decade.
