Nationals Park was opened in 2008, when the Washington Nationals began play in Washington D.C., following their move from Montreal where they played as the Expos. The park is home to only the Nationals, who play in Major League Baseball's National League East division. Since the stadium opened, it has played host to a number of noteworthy events, including three Nationals playoff appearances.

In the baseball world, Nationals Park played host to a piece of baseball history, as legendary starting pitcher Randy Johnson earned his 300th win as a member of the San Francisco Giants in a 5-1 win over the Nationals. It will be the site of the 89th MLB All-Star Game on July 17, 2018. The Stadium has also played host to one of the more fun traditions in recent sporting history, the 2015 Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks, in a contest that the Capitals won 3-2.

Outside of the sports world, Nationals Park has played host to many concerts, hosting legends such as Billy Joel and Paul McCartney. Nationals Park also hosted Pope Benedict XVI during his 2008 visit to the United States, where a mass was celebrated with over 47,000 people in attendance.
