Los Angeles Football Club History

Los Angeles Football Club was founded in 2014 and kicked off its inaugural season in MLS in 2018. Making a splash by signing a big-name coach and players with an international pedigree, the team’s foundation and location ensured a budding rivalry with the cross-town LA Galaxy. Known as ‘El Tráfico,’ the derby between LAFC and the Galaxy is an homage to the city’s clogged roads and the El Clásico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Former US National Team head coach Bob Bradley was hired to take charge of the Club’s first MLS season. The inaugural season roster was then filled with players familiar to fans of European and international soccer. Mexican international Carlos Vela, Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi, and Portuguese midfielder André Horta were the team’s first three designated players. Vela, the biggest signing for the young Club, came from Spanish side Real Sociedad where he scored 54 goals. At the time of signing, Vela had also made over 70 appearances for Mexico on an international level. The signings made a statement to the MLS that the new team was building for long-term success.

Known as the Black and Gold and playing their games at the Banc of California Stadium, which seats 22,000 fans, LAFC consistently sold out their stadium during the club’s first season. They also sold out of full season memberships. The Club has gained a following as the club at the heart of the city, and LAFC has proven they will be a formidable franchise with a strong fanbase. The most avid fans are in “The 3252,” a reference to the number of the standing supporters section.

Los Angeles won its first MLS game on the road against the Seattle Sounders 1-0. As luck would have it, the Black and Gold also played its first home game against the Sounders two months later and won that game by the same score line. LAFC advanced to the semifinals of the US Open Cup, a knockout cup competition. They lost to the Houston Dynamo 7-6 on penalties in a tight shootout to decide the finalist for the competition. Despite the loss in the Open Cup, LAFC showed attacking skill and a competitive spirit throughout the Open Cup campaign. And the Black and Gold proved they will be a playoff contender for years to come.

What makes Los Angeles Football Club postseason games special for fans?

Buying Los Angeles Football Club postseason tickets isn’t just about attending another game—it’s about experiencing something bigger. Here’s what makes postseason special compared to the regular season, and why it’s worth securing tickets early:

  • Higher stakes and intensity: Postseason LAFC games are when every action counts. The pressure is on, the matchups more meaningful, and the atmosphere electric. If you want to see critical plays, clutch moments, and possibly history being made, this is where it happens.

  • Scarcity and urgency: There are fewer postseason games, and demand shoots up fast. Premium seats fill up quickly. Buying tickets early means better choice in seating, avoiding inflated resale prices, and locking in your spot before the buzz drives them higher.

  • Exclusive perks and priority: Ticket holders often get extras that regular-season attendees don’t always get: priority access to purchase playoff tickets (especially if you’re a season-ticket or membership holder), exclusive merchandise, special events, themed game nights, or upgraded amenities (parking, entrance, etc.).

  • Memorable atmosphere and fan energy: The crowd is more invested, the media presence greater, and the tension more palpable. Postseason LAFC games tend to be more electric—fans are louder, anticipation is higher, and the emotional payoff is bigger.

  • Opportunity to witness defining moments: These are the Los Angeles Football Club fans talk about for years. Comebacks, championships, career highlights—postseason is when legacies are built. If you want to be there for those moments, this is your chance.

  • Better value in some cases: Even though the tickets might cost more, when balanced against what you get (intensity, perks, memorable experience), many fans find postseason LAFC tickets fetch greater value per dollar compared to regular season games, especially when you consider resale value or experiential payoff.
