John Mayer announces 2027 Sphere residency: Dates, presales and what to expect

John Mayer is bringing just about every version of his live show to Sphere in Las Vegas.

“John Mayer Live at Sphere” will take over the venue for six shows across two weekends in April 2027, and this will not be a standard Mayer concert. Each night will be split between solo performances, a full-band set and the return of the John Mayer Trio.

That last part should get longtime fans especially excited. Mayer will reunite with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, bringing the blues-heavy Trio back to one of his own major concerts. The three last played together at the Love Rocks NYC benefit in 2023, their first performance as a group since 2017.

John Mayer Sphere 2027 dates

John Mayer's Sphere residency runs from April 8 through April 18, 2027, with all six concerts scheduled for 8:00 p.m. PT.

The first weekend includes Thursday, April 8, Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11. Mayer then returns the following week for Thursday, April 15, Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18.

What will John Mayer perform at the Sphere?

Unlike a standard concert announcement where the setlist remains a mystery, Mayer has already revealed the basic structure of the show.

Each night will showcase his music in three different live formats: solo, full band and John Mayer Trio.

John Mayer solo

The solo portion will put Mayer alone onstage and lean heavily into acoustic guitar, similar to the stripped-back format fans saw during his Solo Tour.

The blues-driven trio originally formed in 2005 and released the live album Try! later that year. They were a major part of Mayer’s 2017 “The Search for Everything Tour” and have played together only sparingly since, including two reunion appearances in 2023.

This is where the residency has the potential to feel dramatically different from a normal John Mayer concert.

Sphere's interior LED display wraps up, over and around the audience, allowing visuals to become part of the performance rather than simply appearing behind the stage.
