Third time proves the charm for Cassie Ventura (Created May 8, 2013)
Born of a privileged background in New London, Connecticut, Cassie Ventura's career has grown from that of model and dancer to actress and recording artist. Never heard of her? We just need to ask -- Where have you been?
Cassie, as she is known, began her modeling career when she was just sixteen. Of course, it would lead to bigger and better things. She quickly jumped from the pages of Seventeen magazine to partying amongst New York City's upper crust. A chance meeting with producer Ryan Leslie at one of those clubs eventually led to her first management deal. And before long she not only had a club hit with her first single, Me & U," but landed rap mogul Diddy as a partner on her debut album (behind his Bad Boy Records label).
With a sound that's a solid mix of R&B, hip-hop and pop, Cassie's first album was a solid, commercial success. Yet critics panned her live appearances, and she turned to a different set of producers to craft her sophomore effort. They included Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and a host of different writers. But three singles from the project failed to chart in the US, and the album failed to materialize while Cassie concentrated on her film debut in "Step Up 2: The Streets."
The last year has been much more kind to Cassie, at least where music is concerned. She released the single "King of Hearts" in February 2012, and has been on a roll since. The follow-up, "Balcony," featured Young Jeezy and was sent to radio in September. She was also featured on Nicki Minaj's re-released album "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up" on the single "The Boys."
Cassie's latest mixtape (and her 'third' album) "RockaByeBaby," was released April 11, 2013. She is also the face of the Summer 2013 Forever 21 collection.
