About Crayon Pop
No, Crayon Pop is not a hot toy off the Crayola/Hallmark line. Your kids won't be able to play with it in school, or use it as a science experiment. But we love the name all the same. And the nickname the media has bestowed upon these girls? The Colorful Quintet.
Crayon Pop is actually a five-member South Korean girl band formed a few years ago under the Chrome Entertainment name. Consisting of Geummi, Ellin, Way, Choa and Soyul, the girls made a splash with the release of both the Korean and Japanese music videos for lead single "Bing Bing," the release of their first EP, "Crayon Pop: The 1st Mini Album," and a proper television debut with "Saturday Night" on Mnet's "M! Countdown."
It was the release of "Bar Bar Bar" that really set the bar (no pun intended) for Crayon Pop's rising popularity. It made a swift climb up the Korean digital music charts, and eight weeks after its release it finally reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100 for the first time. The follow-up, "Uh-ee," bowed in late March 2014, and the video garnered more than one million views online the day of its release.
By summer 2014 Crayon Pop was the opening act for Lady Gaga's ArtRave: The Artpop Ball. They became the second Korean act to perform for Lady Gaga, the first being Lee Jung-hyun.
Strawberry Milk, a spinoff of sorts consisting of twins Choa and Way, plan to debut their first mini-album on October 15, 2014.
