Dam Funk and Snoopzilla release "7 Days of Funk"
As an in-demand DJ, Dam-Funk continues to attract 'the most discerning Bookie Funk aficionados to his live shows.
Funk's appearances aren't just your random ticketed event. Instead, his gigs have been dubbed Monday-night Funkmosphere parties. His label assures you the gathering are "not just collectors at the bar toasting to the melodic sounds. Anyone who grooves to the likes of Slave, Aurra, early Prince, Prelude Records and the like will get a dose of those groups' unknown contemporaries – more obscure but equally Funk-worthy."
Something else Funk-worthy as this artist entered 2014? The release of "7 Days of Funk," a project between Dam-Funk and Snoopzilla (aka Snoop Dogg). The collaboration officially began back in 2011 when Snoop invited Funk on stage for a performance at SXSW. It was like a match made in heaven for both artists, with Snoop telling Rolling Stone magazine, "I've had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He's keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him."
"Snoop knew what I was thinking without me having to articulate it," Dam-Funk added in the same statement. "That's how you know when you gel artistically with someone. These beats were made for him and he laid down some of the smoothest harmonies and melodies I've ever heard. It's hip-hop, but you can also hear what we grew up on, from Zapp to Evelyn 'Champagne' King and Patrice Rushen."
"7 Days of Funk" was released on December 10, 2013 on Stones Throw Records. It was preceded by the single "Faden Away."
The Ambassador of Boogie Funk (Created August 16, 2103)
Said to be the "Ambassador of Boogie Funk," Damon G. Riddick's alter-ego is Dam-Funk, a musician, vocalist and producer from Pasadena, California.
Undoubtedly, Dam-Funk has made quite the name for himself the last few years by rocking dance floors around the world with his version of a musical renaissance. His style is rooted in an early-'80s mix of boogie, electro-funk and modern soul, and he's been on a wide radar after years of struggling to start a music career. That all changed after an apprenticeship under S.O.L. A.R. producer Leon Sylvers III, when Dam-Funk was ultimately signed to the L.A.-based label Stones Throw Records.
In no time at all Dam-Funk's remix "Burn Rubber" had become a favorite of the international underground scene, and he followed that with two 12" maxi singles and an EP titled "Rhythm Trax Vol. IV." In 2009, he debuted five LPs of new material, and his music was finally recognized by noted radio DJs such as Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B, Giles Peterson and many others. In 2010 he played an astounding 15 shows at the annual SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
Over the last few years Dam-Funk has been in and out of the studio to record singles, 'downloadable mixes' and 'free demo tracks' debuted on his social media accounts. He toured the world two times over in 2010-11 behind the newly-formed band Master Blazter, and has recently joined forces with the one and only Steve Arrington to create "Higher," finally uniting a modern artist and a musical legend
