About Run Run Run (Created May 15, 2013)
Say the word 'Run' and most music aficionados will defer to the song by Matt Nathanson. But string together a chant of Run Run Run, and the reference belongs to the Indie rock band from Los Angeles consisting of Xander Smith, Nic Speck, Doug Palmer, Francisco DeCun and Alek Speck.
Rx3, as the band is called, was started in 2001 when Smith started making demos with the late Fred Drake at a place called Rancho De La Luna. Their sound, which was something akin to indie rock mixed with pop, was refined and fine-tuned in studio. But the result played to the band's melancholy disposition, which bled right into the vocals. Thus, their first full-length (2006's "Endless Winter") was met with skeptical reviews.
The band's next EP, "Good Company," went for much poppier instrumentation, but the disheartened and doleful lyrics remained. Going forward, critics agreed the band had kept its mesmerizing mystique, and their second album became available through iTunes in June 2010, followed by a compilation that was self-released the following year.
Rx3 has toured consistently over the last seven years, supporting acts such as Cranes, Sparta, The Strokes, Psychedelic Furs, The Teenagers and so many others. In the winter of 2012 Smith also made his first solo singer/songwriter record called "Hey San Pedro," which saw a dual release both digitally and through the band's label, Song&Dance, on May 15.
Run Run Run is set to record and release its next album in 2013, and hopes to bring its music to Australia, Indonesia and Asia.
