Straight White Men is a hilarious comedy following three brothers as they return to their family home to keep their widowed father company during Christmas. Set in the Midwestern United States, Straight White Men has been delighting audiences since its off-Broadway premiere in 2014.
The 2018 revival of Straight White Men is directed by Anna Shapiro, a Northwestern University professor and artistic director of the Steppenwolf Theater Company. Her directing career has spanned several decades, winning her the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for her work on August: Osage County, which debuted on Broadway in 2008. She's directed several other productions both on Broadway and off, including the Of Mice and Men revival, Fish in the Dark, and This Is Our Youth.
Armie Hammer took on the role of Drew in the launch of Straight White Men, bringing his talent from the screen to the stage. Known for his film and television work, Armie Hammer has worked on movies such as Cars 3, Call Me by Your Name, and Flicka, though he may be best known for his portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in the film The Social Network. He also has several television credits to his name, including The Simpsons, American Dad, Desperate Housewives, and Veronica Mars. Hammer has been nominated for several awards, winning the Hollywood Film Festival Award for Ensemble of the Year, and the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor, both in 2010 for his work on The Social Network.
Paul Andrew Schneider is another well-known television star who helped launch the show. Widely known for portraying Mark Brendanawicz on Parks and Recreation during the show's first two seasons. He has appeared in several films, including The Family Stone, Elizabethtown, Water for Elephants, and Rules Don't Apply.
Straight White Men Dates
Straight White Men originally opened in the Public Theatre in New York on November 7, 2014 under the direction of the show's writer Young Jean Lee. After being revised and restaged in 2017, Straight White Men debuted on Broadway at the Hayes Theater. The first preview was June 30, 2018, and the show officially launched July 23, 2018.
Straight White Men has a parental advisory for explicit language and is recommended for ages 13+.
